Snapchat partners Square on P2P payments

Snapchat has teamed up with Square to enable users to send each other money through the Photo sharing app.

Based on Square Cash, Snapcash lets Americans over the age of 18 link a debit card and then send money directly to friends' bank accounts by typing the dollar sign and an amount before hitting a green pay button.

Snapchat, which has had several security scares in its brief history, says that it realises that "security is essential when you’re dealing with money. Square has a ton of experience in this area and our teams have been hard at work to make Snapcash a great experience for everyone."

The person-to-person payments field is proving popular with social media players. Recent screenshots revealed that Facebook has built a feature that could soon let friends send money to each other through Messenger, while Twitter has teamed with French bank BPCE to let customers tweet funds to each other.

The video is pretty unforgettable and quote a stylistic departure for Square!
