ANZ celebrates Mardi Gras with GAYTMs

Oz bank ANZ has commissioned artists to make its cash machines more fabulous, turning them into 'GAYTMs' for the Sydney Mardi Gras festival.

During the festival - of which ANZ is an official partner - Sydney will get 10 individually decorated machines, featuring colours, patterns and jewels inspired by LGBTI culture. Each GAYTM will also print rainbow coloured receipts.

One of the machines, called 'Hello Sailor', is designed to celebrate the Defence Force allowing its members to march in uniform for the first time last year.

The bank has also built a social site - complete with galloping pink unicorns carrying piggy banks on their backs - showing off the 10 brightly decorated ATMs and providing a map of their locations. Aussies are being asked to tweet and snap Instagram photos, using the #gaytm hashtag.

ANZ is donating operator fees for non-cardholders from its GAYTMs during the festival to Twenty10, a not-for-profit, while selected bank machine screens in cities around Australia will carry messages of support for the festival.

Mark Hand, chair, diversity council, ANZ Australia, says: "This association is all about encouraging an environment where everyone feels comfortable being themselves at work. You don't get the benefits of a diverse workforce if some people are expending vast amounts of energy pretending to be something they are not and trying to conform."
