Jetco taps Gemalto for Hong Kong and Macau NFC m-payments

Hong Kong's bank-owned payment outfit Joint Electronic Teller Services Limited (Jetco) has called in Gemalto to help it roll out an NFC mobile payments service.

Jetco will use Gemalto's LinqUs Trusted Service Management software platform for the commercial rollout in Hong Kong and Macau. The vendor will also provide set-up consulting services.

The technology will help Jetco to securely distribute and manage mobile payment services to their end users, enabling them to make low-value payments with a tap of their handsets at more than 10,000 POS terminals.

Suzanne Tong-Li, president, Greater China and Korea, Gemalto, says: "The TSM will allow Jetco to play the role of trusted third party for NFC deployment and collaborate with all of Hong-Kong's mobile operators in a secure manner."

John Tsang, deputy GM, Jetco, adds: "A great advantage of the Gemalto TSM's flexible nature is that it will allow our member banks to leverage multiple payment standards."
