NCR has teamed up with Finish ATM network operator Automatia to develop a custom pressurisation kit designed to protect cash machines from the harsh Scandinavian winters.
Automatia has struck a deal with NCR to replace 600 ATMs with SelfServ 25 and 26 models.
But with temperatures falling to as low as -30 degrees centigrade in Finland, the pair have taken extra measures to protect the machines' electronic and electro-mechanical components. The custom pressurisation kit is designed to combat the effects of the extreme cold, as well as dust, increasing reliability and up-time.
More generally, Automatia says that the ATM network upgrade - which NCR is working with Fujitsu on - is designed to increase self-service and let banks shift how they use their branches.
