US investment bank Brown Brothers Harriman expects to have abandoned traditional desktop computing within two years as employees move to mobile working, says CIO and partner Christopher Remondi.
Remondi, speaking to Finextra after the Mobile Workforce: Hype versus Reality session at this year's Sibos, criticises the financial services industry for engaging in a certain amount of push back on mobile working initiatives like bring-your-own-device.
He says that innovation is often cited as an important part of financial services, but at the same time banks' IT departments are telling staff "don't bring the latest technology to work, leave it at home".
"Financial services is used to a very command and control structure," he adds "but we can control data on multiple devices these days, we need to enable that. I want people who work for our firm...to have very high technical IQs and the only way that can happen is if they're using the latest devices at work."
