Two men who used the SpyEye malware to steal around £100,000 from online bank accounts have been jailed by a London court.
Lithuanian Pavel Cyganok and Estonian Ilja Zakrevski used SpyEye to steal Web banking login details from victims in the UK, Denmark, the Netherlands and New Zealand.
The information was uploaded to servers to which they had access, enabling them to steal money from the accounts to buy luxuary goods which were then re-sold on auction sites.
The men were arrested by the Met's Police Central eCrime Unit after a tip-off from Estonian authorities and pleaded guilty in May. Cyganok has been sentenced to five years in jail and Zakrevski four.
A third man, Latvian Aldis Krummins, received two years for helping to launder the money.
Detective Constable Bob Burls, PCeU, says: "The defendants developed a highly organised IT infrastructure to enable their criminality including in some cases the automatic infection of innocent computer users with their malicious code."
