Reuters opens social media hub

Reuters has launched a new social media hub, providing a real-time sentiment guide to what news, companies and people are hot on the Web.

The Social Pulse hub provides a guide to the reading matter of people who Reuters' journalists and official accounts are following.

The company has also teamed up with data outfit WiseWindow on a real-time sentiment index that ranks the top publicly-traded companies across six sectors - technology, finance, healthcare, industrial, energy and cyclicals. The index combines the volume and sentiment of a company's mass online opinions to show how sentiment is shifting in relation to its stock price shifts.

Other Social Pulse features include a listing of the most social CEOs, developed by Reuters with Klout and a Twitter directory to help visitors find the musings of the firm's 3000 journalists.

It's nice, tidy I suppose, kind of there but could have been done much better.

A few stats around twitter for example and a whole stream load of chatter from the obvious events right now isn't really farming the most of such a facility.

I give it 3 out 5, not bad for a first launch but this is going to need to evolve substantially before it will be a formidable service in its own right.
