Google's head of consumer payments Vikas Gupta has quit the firm after 18 months in the job, according to tech news site AllThingsD.

Gupta joined Google after it acquired the company he founded and led, Jambool, operator of virtual currency platform Social Gold, for over $50 million in 2010.

Since then he has been part of the payments team, which has focused on the Google Wallet mobile money project, under Osama Bedier.

A spokesman confirmed to AllThingsD that Gupta has left but there is no hint on where the man who held senior payments positions at Amazon before setting up Jambool in 2006, is planning on going next.
