Deutsche Bank NY headquarters go solar

Deutsche Bank has built a solar photovoltaic (PV) system on the roof of its New York headquarters, cutting the building's carbon emissions by 100 metric tons a year.

The 50 story, 745 foot tall skyscraper on Wall Street has seen a a 122.4 kW solar PV system mounted on the inclined South and East portions of its roof.

The largest solar PV array in Manhattan, and the highest up in the world, it is also the third of its kind installed in North America by Deutsche Bank.

A two-phase installation of a 1.267 megawatt system at an office in Piscatawaym New Jersey has delivered a net-zero electric building. A fourth project featuring a 1.5 megawatt system is underway at the bank's Parsippany, New Jersey facility with planned completion later this year.

Seth Waugh, CEO, Deutsche Bank Americas, says: "This project is one part of a comprehensive global program to reduce the bank's consumption of fossil fuels and shift to more renewable sources of energy. Our goal is to neutralise the bank's global CO2 emissions by 2013."

In 2009 the firm's asset management unit unveiled a 70 foot tall billboard in downtown New York that tracks greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
