BofA names Bottega chief data officer

Bank of America (BofA) has appointed Federal Reserve and Citi veteran John Bottega as its new chief data officer.

Based in New York and reporting to enterprise CIO Marc Gordon, Bottega will be responsible for the bank's data management strategy, policy and governance.

The new man joins from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, where he was chief data officer at the markets division. Previously he held the same role at Citi's institutional client group and has also worked for Credit Suisse, Merrill Lynch and Lehman Brothers.

Says Gordon: "John is a proven leader with an extensive background in data management and data quality. Adding John to our team demonstrates the bank's continued focus and commitment in these critical areas."

I am glad to see the industry realize the importance of data and how it is critical to an engagement banking strategy. Too ofter data has lacked an owner.
