Google Wallet gets SingleTap for coupon redemption

Google has tweaked its mobile payments service, enabling users to pay for their purchases, redeem coupons and earn reward points through a single tap of their handsets at the check-out.

The Google Wallet SingleTap feature automatically redeems coupons at the point of sale through the same tap of the handset used to make the payment.

"You don't have to shuffle around to find the right coupon to scan or rewards card to stamp because it all happens in the blink of an eye," says the company in a blog.

The feature is being introduced at partner merchants American Eagle Outfitters, The Container Store, Foot Locker, Guess, Jamba Juice, Macy's, OfficeMax and Toys"R"Us.

Meanwhile, Foot Locker, Guess, OfficeMax and American Eagle Outfitters have all introduced loyalty cards for Google Wallet so users can rack up reward points automatically as they shop.

Google has also moved to improve transaction details for the Prepaid Card with real-time information including merchant name, location, dollar value and time of each payment.

The search giant has also posted a glossy promotional video featuring an army of staffers in stores demonstrating Google Wallet to members of the public:
