Web 2.0 specialist Backbase has teamed with Strands Personal Finance and Thomson Reuters to launch an app store providing tools banks can add to their Web sites.

The Backbase Bank 2.0 Portal is a "user experience" layer that financial institutions can place over their existing IT systems to offer customers an improved, personalised online service.

The firm has now introduced an App Store, that lets banks add financial management, content, news and research applications from Backbase and its partners to their Web sites.

Thomson Reuters news and content and PFM tools from Strands Personal Finance are already available for banks to add, with more to follow.

Jouk Pleiter, CEO, Backbase, says: "In today's Web 2.0 world, banks need to offer a superior online customer experience that goes way beyond offering an online transaction capability alone. In order to be customer-centric and optimise the online customer journey, financial services firms need to be able to create the right blend of functionality and content to serve their customers in a more personal way."
