Luxembourg's state postal and telecom service provider is to start selling stamps through its network of Diebold cash machines.

P&T Luxembourg's 28 Diebold Opteva ATMs, located throughout the country, have been adapted to enable them to distribute the postage stamps as well as cash.

Gilbert Gazon, director, Diebold Luxembourg, says: "I have no doubt that the success of the operation - already enthusiastically supported by consumers in Luxembourg - will mean its swift extension into other countries throughout Europe."

Hi All,

Postal institutions seem to be becoming increasing active in retail banking in a number of countries. Providing access to cash is an important aspect and helps with financial inclusion.

See: http://www.finextra.com/news/fullstory.aspx?newsitemid=18618 where it was noted that "In 2005 the Post Office contracted with BoI for the supply of 1000 "free of charge" cash machines that were rolled out across its national branch network."

This is now happening and the Post office ATMs being installed in key ATM "black spots" often kill the nearby IAD terminals (that charge a fee).

Best Regards,

Felix Kronabetter

Don't you just love it when retailers think so laterally and come up with 1001 things to do with an ATM. What next I wonder? ATMs in butchers dispensing sausages? Sandwiches from Cafes? SEPA compliant IOU's from European Government offices?
