Singapore's Nets makes mobile bill payment move

Singaporean e-payments outfit Nets has launched a platform that enables customers to pay bills and buy goods and services from multiple providers through their mobile phones and at kiosks.

The iNets offering aggregates services from banks, telecommunications operators, merchants and others, providing a single point of contact.

This enables customers to pay for everyday services such as credit card, phone, utility and household bills, bank loans or movie tickets "anytime, anywhere". So far, 10 billers have signed up to the service.

The payments can currently be made though the firm's kiosks as well as via mobile phones, with users issuing "virtual cheques" to pay bills. Nets says it also plans to offer the service though ATMs and set top boxes in the future.

Poh Mui Hoon, CEO, Nets, says: "There is still a sizeable number of payment transactions that are not being paid electronically. There is also increasing demand from consumers and merchants for more self service choices at payment counters so that it will deliver better productivity and convenience. We aim to tap a significant portion of this market segment."
