Tibco buys DataSynapse

California-based Tibco Software has acquired privately-held grid and cloud computing vendor DataSynapse in a cash deal worth around $28 million.

Founded in 2000, DataSynapse employs around 200 staff with headquarters in New York, London, and Tokyo and offices in Boston, Frankfurt, Chicago, Madrid, Washington, Milan, Paris and Beijing.

The company's products provision and manage applications across physical, virtual and cloud-based environments.

The firm says this helps customers - including ABN Amro, BNP Paribas, Citi, Deutsche Bank, HSBC and UBS - improve utilisation of data centre resources, lower IT capital expenditures, reduce time to deployment of enterprise applications, and increase performance of mission-critical systems.

Tibco says the acquisition will complement its strategy and products for distributed software infrastructure and cloud computing.

Under the deal, DataSynapse co-founders, Peter Lee and Jamie Bernardin, will join the Tibco management team.

Earlier this month, Tibco was itself subject to speculation surrounding a possible takeover by German vendor SAP. However after its shares soared chief executive Vivek Ranadiv told Reuters the firm "is not actively looking for a buyer".
