The 7000 square foot, raised floor data centre will use chilled water-based cooling and an automatic floor pressurisation system, helping Kotak save over $1.2 million in operational efficiency and reduced energy costs over the next five years.

IBM will also be deploying new-generation switching technology and an IP convergence system for over 3000 users.

The vendor says the deal will help Kotak move towards a shared technology infrastructure services model as it looks to take advantage of economies of scale and adopt more environmentally friendly processes.

Separately, China's Bank of Chengdu has chosen IBM's Power 595 platform to upgrade its core banking system and support expansion plans.

Bank of Chengdu will move its core system to two IBM Power 595 servers, providing better response time and minimised downtime, enabling the bank to run its data centre 24 hours a day.
