Absa introduces mobile money transfer via ATM network

South Africa's Absa Bank has launched CashSend, a service that enables customers to send funds via ATMs to recipients that do not have a bank account or card.

Customers can use the service to electronically transfer funds using an ATM or mobile and Internet banking services. Recipients are able to withdraw funds from an ATM without needing a card or bank account.

Absa customers can electronically transfer up to R3000 through ATMs and self service kiosks and up to R1000 via mobile and Internet banking services.

Recipients can withdraw the money from an ATM using a security password sent to their mobile phone, along with an access code which is selected by the sender.

Venete Klein, executive director of Absa Retail Bank, told reporters that ATM screens will feature a 'CashSend Withdrawal' icon. Recipients that select this function will activate the ATM for a CashSend transaction.
