China Merchants Bank (CMB) is implementing voice authentication technology supplied by Israel-based PerSay which it will use to verify the identity of customers calling its contact centres.

The bank will install PerSay's FreeSpeech text-independent biometric speaker verification system at its Huawei-based call centres in the next couple of months.

The vendor says its technology is content, language and accent independent and retrieves the biometric voice characteristics required for verification within seconds, eliminating the need for cumbersome authentication questions.

Hua Min, CIO, CMB, says: "CMB was the first to introduce financial contact centres as well as e-banking services to the Chinese financial market, and is proud to be a pioneer in introducing voice biometrics technology by PerSay."

The technology is being supplied to the Chinese bank by PerSay's local reseller, ATNN.

"This exciting and challenging first project marks the cornerstone for the voice biometrics market in China," says WuTong, general manager, ANTT.
