Thomson Reuters cuts 835 jobs

Recently-merged Thomson Reuters is axing 835 jobs - including 650 content, technology and operations roles - as it looks to cut costs and eliminate overlap between the two businesses.

In addition to the 650 content, technology and operations roles, the group is cutting 140 editorial roles and 45 sales positions.

A spokeswoman told Finextra the move comes after a review found "natural overlap" between the two businesses following Thomson's £8.7 billion acquisition of Reuters earlier this year.

Media reports suggest as many as 1500 of the group's 50,000 global jobs may eventually be shed.

The job cuts will contribute to Thomson Reuters stated aim of realising $750 million of savings a year from its third year.
