UK's Post Office launches pre-paid currency card

The UK Post Office is introducing a reloadable PIN-protected payment card designed to replace paper travellers cheques.

The Post Office says users of the Travel Money Card will be able to load funds onto the card by cash, cheque, debit or credit card at Post Office branches throughout the UK, while travellers abroad will be able to call a telephone number to top up balances.

The card will enable holders to make purchases at retail outlets worldwide and withdraw money from Visa ATMs globally.

The company says the card carries a one-off purchase charge of £10 and is avilable in three currencies - sterling, euros and US dollars - and will be valid for two years.

Kevin McAdam, head of travel & leisure, Post Office, comments: "Our Travel Money Card is extremely secure with its own PIN and has a built in safety net, so you can't spend more than the balance on the card, offering customers not only convenience, but peace of mind when it comes to holiday spending."
