Cantor takes a punt on online gambling

Inter-dealer broker Cantor Fitzgerald is moving to take advantage of the widespread popularity of Internet gambling with the launch of a new online gaming portal, Cantor Casino.

Canto Casino will offer customers a range of games including roulette, blackjack, video poker, video slots, mini baccarat as well as two popular Asian games, Pai Gow and Sic Bo.

The service is the first to emerge from the firm's recently-formed online and mobile gaming business, Cantor Gaming, which was established to develop and operate virtual casinos on behalf of companies in Europe.

The company says the service will initially be offered to investors associated with both the Cantor Fitzgerald and Cantor Index groups, as well as the existing pool of online gamers. But, in line with the US Department of Justice's position on remote gambling, Cantor says it will not to accept casino customers from the US.

Tom Kenny, COO of Cantor Gaming, says: "Historically, the Cantor Index group has successfully white labelled a number of services including CFDs, spread betting, and most recently a financial fixed odds service through Ladbrokes.

"Cantor Gaming is in discussion with a number of companies who want to develop relationships with their customer base by taking advantage of the current popularity of online casinos."

Kenny joined Cantor Gaming as COO in May having previously founded Tecbet, a management consultancy specialising in payments, anti-fraud, customer ID verification and compliance for the remote gambling industry.

Cantor's move into online gaming follows recent high-profile IPOs by Internet casino firms such as 888 Holdings, which made its market debut on the London Stock Exchange yesterday, and Partygaming which floated in June.
