JPMorgan denies hacking report

JPMorgan Chase has dismissed as "false" a report that its systems have been breached by hackers for the second time in recent months.

On Thursday, citing "several people" with knowledge of an investigation, the New York Times reported that hackers with links to Italy or southern Europe had breached bank servers.

However JPMorgan spokeswoman Patricia Wexler has told Reuters: "The story is false. We are not aware of any new attack."

In July the bank discovered that it had been the victim of a sophisticated and devastating attack on it systems after hackers exploited a zero-day vulnerability on its website to steal gigabytes of sensitive data.

Today, a regulatory filing shed new light on the hack. The compromised data - names, phone numbers, addresses and email addresses - affects 76 million households and seven million small businesses.

However, there is no evidence that account numbers, passwords, user IDs, dates of birth or social security numbers were taken and there has been no signs of extra fraud since the incident.
