ForgeRock, the leading open platform provider of identity relationship management (IRM) solutions, announced today that it has joined the Fido (Fast Identity Online) Alliance, an industry consortium revolutionising secure online authentication.

The company made the announcement at the First Annual Identity Relationship Management Summit, being held this week at the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix, Arizona.

ForgeRock will work with the Alliance to create simpler, stronger authentication specifications to safeguard online identities, enabling businesses to deliver richer services to customers, suppliers and partners. ForgeRock, a pioneer of IRM solutions, has been transforming the enterprise by reconstituting identity to solve business critical, customer-facing identity monetisation challenges. As the leader in IRM, ForgeRock provides Fortune 1000 customers with an open, unified identity platform that can rapidly deliver new customer services to any user, device or thing. Simultaneously, the platform is able to use real-time context to assess risk and protect customers from online malicious activity.

"Joining the FIDO Alliance gives ForgeRock an opportunity to collaborate with industry leaders to define open, scalable, interoperable authentication standards that will reduce the reliance of consumers and enterprises on passwords," said Lasse Andresen, founder and CTO, ForgeRock. "We're eagerly working with the FIDO Alliance on standards that will enable businesses to provide simple, secure and reliable authentication, improve the customer experience and create additional monetising opportunities."

"ForgeRock has created an incredibly agile, lightweight and scalable identity relationship management platform that is not only changing the way businesses engage with consumers and partners but also improving the customer experience and driving revenue growth," said Rajiv Dholakia, vice president of products, Nok Nok Labs Inc. "We look forward to working together with ForgeRock to advance FIDO standards and drive their adoption."

"We are excited to welcome our newest associate member, ForgeRock," said Michael Barrett, FIDO Alliance president. "The FIDO vision of universal strong autheentication promises better security, enhanced privacy, more commerce and expansion of services throughout digital industries. ForgeRock's addition to our Alliance supports our industry goal to make user authentication easier and safer for all parties."

FIDO Alliance members share technology and collaborate to deliver open specifications for universal strong authentication that enables FIDO-compliant authentication methods to be interoperable, more secure and private, and easier to use.

FIDO specifications will support a full range of authentication technologies, including biometrics such as fingerprint, eye and iris scanners as well as voice and facial recognition. The specifications also further enable existing solutions and communications standards, such as Trusted Platform Modules (TPM), USB Security Tokens, embedded Secure Elements (eSE), Smart Cards, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Near Field Communication (NFC). The FIDO alliance is designing the open specifications to be extensible and to accommodate future innovation, as well as to protect existing investments. FIDO specifications allow the interaction of technologies within an interoperable infrastructure, enabling users and organisations to choose the type of authentication that best meets their distinct needs.
