Commerce Bank introduces EMV chip cards

Commerce Bank is offering Visa® Signature Credit Card holders more convenience and safety when traveling abroad with the addition of the chip-enabled Visa Signature Credit Card to its line of credit card products.

The card is embedded with a Europay, MasterCard® and Visa (EMV®) microchip that provides customers with greater acceptance at international merchants where chip card terminals have become the standard. The microchip contains encrypted data which is more difficult to counterfeit if the card is lost or stolen, thereby providing enhanced credit card security for those customers traveling abroad.

"We are excited to offer our customers a product that will make international transactions more convenient and secure," said Carl Bradbury, Director of Consumer Card Products. "As the payments industry continues to evolve, Commerce Bank understands the utmost importance of protecting our customers against fraudulent activity. We view the chip-enabled Visa Signature Credit Card as a way for customers to experience greater card acceptance, enhanced security, and overall increased peace of mind while travelling internationally."

The chip-enabled credit card includes elements that offer each transaction an additional layer of security for regular purchases in stores as well as those made at unattended terminals such as automated ticket dispensers commonly found in European train stations. The embedded microchip stores and generates the information required to authenticate, authorize and process transactions. The Commerce Bank chip-enabled Visa Signature card is accepted anywhere Visa® cards are accepted.
