Thomson Reuters today announced it has launched new independent research and forecasting tools for energy professionals using the Company's flagship desktop, Thomson Reuters Eikon.

Eikon now enables energy traders, analysts and risk managers to combine rich research and forecast information from Thomson Reuters Point Carbon with real-time and historical price data, Reuters news and access to community chat tools to inform trade decisions and minimize risk.

Thomson Reuters Research & Forecasts for Energy provides energy professionals with detailed analysis and assessment of the fundamental elements of the power, gas and carbon markets using unique insight and proprietary modelling techniques. This market-predicting information is created through the monitoring of weather forecasts, key supply and demand factors and pricing activity alongside policy developments and other market factors by Thomson Reuters independent experts in international and regional climate policy, mathematical and economic modeling, forecasting methodologies, risk management and market reporting.

Energy markets are undergoing fundamental changes. While still influenced primarily by supply and demand, these market drivers are now more complex than ever requiring an understanding of factors such as the ongoing economic crisis, geo-political unrest, global competition for fuel, technology advances such as the shale gas revolution, the growth in renewables and the impact of weather. These factors all have a direct impact on price, market uncertainty and increased volatility.

Energy professionals using Thomson Reuters Eikon now have access to integrated, detailed analysis of supply and demand for key power, gas and carbon markets and its effect on prices. Customers can tailor views to add components of Research & Forecasts to their existing Eikon displays, such as animated weather maps, in-depth modeling tools and interactive charts. The analysis is also available on the move via mobile devices.

"Thomson Reuters in-depth knowledge of the energy markets is renowned and well-respected in the trading industry," said Leigh Henson, head of energy at Thomson Reuters. "By combining this forward-looking market intelligence from Thomson Reuters Point Carbon with the innovative tools, real-time news and community of Eikon, we are helping energy professionals stay ahead of the market, fine tune their strategies and more accurately forecast energy demand and prices. Thomson Reuters Eikon is designed to provide an intuitive, next-generation solution for consuming real-time and historical data, connecting with the financial markets community and executing financial markets transactions across asset classes such as foreign exchange (FX), fixed income, commodities, equities and derivatives. It realizes Thomson Reuters vision for a financial markets desktop that is intelligent, simple and social.
