Nationwide reaffirms commitment to UK call centres by opening a new centre in Swindon Nationwide Building Society has opened a new call centre in Swindon, further illustrating the Society's commitment to keeping its call centres based in the UK.

The call centre, one of six the Society has in the UK, will provide a key service for Nationwide's 13 million members.

The new, fully operational call centre will create an extra 200 jobs over the next two years, housing 600 employees by 2010. Since 2002, the Society has opened three new centres in Wakefield, Sheffield and Swansea and refurbished its site in Northampton.

Stuart Bernau, Nationwide's executive director of retail, who opened the new call centre alongside South Swindon MP, Anne Snelgrove, says: "Our call centres handle around a million calls every month and this expansion will help us better meet the needs of our members whilst also helping to support the communities in which we do business.

"At Nationwide, our relationship with our members is core to our business and isn't something we would wish to export overseas. We listen to our customers and pledge to provide the products and services they expect over the long-term and it is important to them that we keep our call centres based in the UK."
