Banksys announced today that its XENTISSIMO mobile payment terminal meets the requirements of the Payment Card Industry PIN Entry Device standard for POS PIN entry devices.
XENTISSIMO is the second Banksys terminal to achieve the certification, joining the XENTA terminal, which was the first terminal ever to be PCI PED certified back in February 2005. The PCI PED approval certifies that both the physical (hardware) and logical design (software) of the XENTISSIMO terminal have been validated by an independent testing organisation that is recognised by Visa, MasterCard and JCB. The PCI-recognised PED laboratories focus on both online and offline PIN security testing, as well as Triple DES capability compliance.
"Compliance with the strict PCI PED standards is the reflection of our constant efforts to provide terminals with the highest degree of security," said Vincent Roland, CEO of the company. "Our concern for security and fraud-resistance translates into the terminal's physical design, the technology used inside and additional options such as the SSL encryption for transactions sent over the Internet."
XENTISSIMO is the newest mobile payment terminal launched by Banksys. It introduces several innovations in terms of mobility, battery autonomy and transaction performance. The flip-up privacy shield, the most tangible security feature of the XENTISSIMO, has been creatively incorporated into the design of the terminal. Thanks to this patented concept, the terminal has a streamlined look and feel when not is use, while the card interfaces can only be accessed when the shield is up, thus protecting the cardholder's privacy when entering his PIN. PCI requires that compliant PIN entry devices are equipped with proper shielding protection for privacy so that the PIN entry by the cardholder cannot be observed.
Besides the PCI PED certification, XENTISSIMO also achieved the German ZKA, Belgian EPCI and Dutch Currence approvals. XENTISSIMO was recently awarded first prize at the EPCA awards for the most innovative terminal solution launched in 2005. The terminal is currently in production and is being commercially deployed in Belgium, the Netherlands and Scandinavia with more countries following soon.
