Banca Popolare di Sondrio (Suisse) has implemented RSA Security's Mobile two-factor system to provide authentication services via mobile hand sets to its online banking customers.The RSA system generates a unique, one-time access code when a customer begins logging on to the banking site. The access code is delivered to the customer via their mobile phone and can be used to complete login.
The mobile technology was integrated with Sobaco's IBServices application, which Banca Popolare di Sondrio uses to deliver its online services.
The bank has previously used RSA's SecurID hardware tokens for authenticating users, but says it can now offer a choice of two authentication options.
Paolo Camponovo, chief operating officer, says: "While some customers still prefer hardware-based authentication, a growing number are embracing the mobile authentication method because of the extra level of convenience it offers."
RSA says its mobile software was designed for B2C and enterprise environments that want to provide secure access to online services without requiring the consumers to carry a separate authentication device. The scalable technology uses the existing mobile infrastructure so consumers don't need any new hardware or software.
