Nomura opens Swedish software development centre

Japanese investment bank Nomura has opened a software development centre in Umea, Sweden, to house IT services staff inherited from Lehman Brothers.

Nomura snapped up Lehmans' European and Middle Eastern equities and investment banking operations, along with its Asia Pacific franchise, in September after the US bank's bankruptcy.

The centre will employ all 34 ex-Lehman Brothers IT services staff in the country. Jonas Kroger, who spent five years at the helm of Lehman Brothers' Swedish IT business, will head up the new operation.

"We look forward to playing our part in helping Nomura transform its European operations," says Kroger.

Mark Butterfield, head, technology, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Nomura, says: "Nomura has more than doubled in size in Europe, placing heightened emphasis on ensuring continued delivery of quality IT services across the region. The team in Sweden will play an important role in Nomura's growth and developing its IT systems to meet future business and market demands."
