Westpac cancels cards after security scare

The bank is in the process of writing to all affected customers to inform them that their cards have been cancelled.

A Westpac spokeswoman told reporters that the breach relates to a third-party vendor which had contact with all of the affected cards. But she declined to give further details of the security breach or name the company involved.

In May Westpac had to suspend 900 customer cards following the discovery of a skimming device at an ATM in Melbourne. $100,000 was withdrawn by fraudsters, affecting about 75 customers.
