IBM signs clutch of IT services deals

IBM has been awarded IT services contracts by four financial institutions, including two in Europe - HSH Nordbank and Banco Guipuzcoano - and two in South America - BankBoston and Venezolano de Crédito.

In Germany, HSH Nordbank and its fully owned subsidiary Plus Bank have signed a five-year, €100M contract with IBM to take over the running of trading, security systems and SAP applications. IBM will also assume responsibility for the operation of mainframe, server, and storage systems in two data centers and look after printing, postal and archiving services for HSH Nordbank's banking operations.

In Spain, Banco Guipuzcoano has signed a seven-year on-demand data storage deal with IBM, building on an existing relationship that began in 1997 when the vendor first took over the management of the bank's mainframe.

In a separate announcement, IBM has struck a deal with Bank Boston in Brazil to assume the operation and management of data centre, LAN/WAN, and contingency services and security requirements.

Elsewhere in Sout America, Venezolano de Crédito has renewed its business continuity and recovery services contract with IBM to overcome potential business interruptions and ensure operational continuity.
