If you've ever been to Trafalgar Square in London then you'll know about the fourth plinth. It's never had a permanent statue on it and in recent years has been temporary home to all manner of fantastic arty fun.
It's currently home to a large ship in a bottle and as usual there's much discussion about what will come in future installations.
Enter stage left Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla who have decided it needs a giant pipe organ, connected to an ATM. A working ATM - in itself perhaps something of a novelty. Indeed you may have already seen this idea mentioned on the best of the
web thingy on the Finextra site.
The idea is that every keypress on the ATM keyboard will trigger a sound from the pipe organ. I'd assume this is not a direct correllation, otherwise guessing PINs will be easy. Would be interesting if it interpreted the transaction details in some way -
perhaps a sinister tune for 'You appear to be overdrawn. Again.'
I wonder if the ATM manufacturers will be scrambling to offer their services. It sounds mad. Completely. I hope it goes ahead!
