Download the Finextra Android App

Here at Finextra, we've been keeping the web elves busy and we are now pleased to announce that we now have an app for Android devices.

The app will help you keep abreast of the latest financial and technology news in wholesale and retail banking when you're away from your desk.

The app displays the latest news stories, the company announcements and the latest editor's choice Blogs, in what is hopefully an intuitive and easy-to-use interface. See the screen grabs below.

The app is compatible with all android devices that are running Android OS 2.1 (a.k.a. Eclair) or greater, which according to Google means over 685 devices!

Click here to download the official Finextra News app for Android.

Or, follow the QR code below.

We're really proud to bring this app to you, but we're not about to rest on our laurels just yet - as a Thank You present to the team, I've bought them a "Learn iPhone app development" book.

So stay tuned for further developments!

Good to see it' Android and the big positive is that I can scroll down a story easily. The big question though is "Do I need an App for that?" or just a custom UI to the web page. This is true not only of the Finextra App but of Bank Apps in general. Unless they add something more than a new UI to the web experience what is the point of them? Apps should offer customisation, interaction, personalisation and ideally have some features that work off line. When they transcend the web experience and offer something useful where ever you have your phone then we'll have something really great that "just works".

Hi Michael,

When we looked into creating an app, we did want to give it some value-added over going to the web site. The one big advantage is that the app stores the latest stories offline so a user can read the news when (s)he is not connected to the internet - I've been catching up on the news stuck in various parts of the Nothern Line on the Underground!

The next stage is to get an iphone app up and running, then to look at what other value-added features we can implement. We don't want to simlpy recreate the finextra.com website as anyone with a smartphone can navigate to the website without needing to go via an app!

Looks great.  Took about 30 secs from reaching for the phone, scanning the QR code and downloading/installing the app - brilliant.

Cannot see comments to the Blogs though.  Expect some nice enhancements in future versions.  Well done
