Mobile ID- potential new buzz word!

As world is talking about mobile payments, there is identification with mobile phone, which needs discussion. Some years ago countries like Turkey and Estonia introduced mobile ID- systems. End of last year, country of (former) Nokia/ current WinDOS Nokia introduced after 10 year project called Mobile ID provided by mobile operators. With this solution mobile phone is not anymore phone or wallet but also ID. Customer gets new kind of verified SIM card and creates his own password. Adding mobile number to service, customer get ID code text like message from service provider and then adds his ID code and is identified if codes are correct.

Service runs like this in our site, where end users can send and sign documents online. This example shows how to identify to service.

OK, the video wasn't brilliant, but I got the point.

Wasn't wPKI supposed to be the premium 'mobile' ID ?  A digital identity that could be stored in the secure part of your browser, or on a dual SIM/WIM phone as a WTLS Cert?  Well wPKI and full PKI was a tough cookie to deploy and faded away in favour of PINs and request/response challenges to authenticate and identify you.  Simplicity won through.

I'll look up Mobile ID, but so far not convinced it moves anything onwards.  Are the MNOs doing KYC checks behind this?  Do they guarantee identity of the MobileID holder like a CA ?

KYC problem is solved at store, where seller checks identity with id-card. It has been as tuff as banks are using. For example if I open mobile service to my kids and then my wife wants to change, I have to provide Power of Attorney letter or march with my wife to store and approve this action. Operators will also in few weeks use 3rd party other authentication for online registration.
