Are Banks nervous about Banking Apps?

I downloaded the NatWest iPhone App recently and at first thought it was just great, but now I'm getting bored with it.

Presentation is fine, navigation no problems, but functionally it now seems lacking.  I want it to do more, I want to be able make payments, account transfers, edit standing orders etc.  I also want to do the same with my accounts with other banks and my credit cards.

So why can't I? The App technology exists, the server infrastructure is in place, it can happen.

Banks, what are you waiting for? Give us more banking on our mobiles.

I also have the Natwest iPhone app - I think the way they've put it together uses ATM Messaging for Balance Enquiry and Mini Statement Requests.  It's not nearly as function rich as their online Banking Services - but these can be accessed via the Safari browser on the iPhone (albeit a bit clumsily as the screen display for their website isn't optimised for an iPhone Browsing experience).
