Apple announce wacky and gorgeous new laptop design

Apple have announced their new range of Macbook computers which they claim are the greenest currently on the market. They're also possibly among the most expensive too with the base model coming in at £949 - mind you - you get a very nice bit of kit at the cutting edge.

I think they're worth the dosh but I wonder if they're missing a trick by not having a really low-cost model - although perhaps the old Macbooks will be discounted for a while.

Among the wackier (and widely predicted) innovations are the 'unibody enclosures', which in plain English means the cases are made from a single block of aluminium, meaning they can be lighter and stronger. And gorgeous.

They've also introduced new, bigger glass trackpads which support assorted multi-touch gestures and you can click anywhere on them. Hmm - I'll reserve judgement on that until I see it.

At the top end on the Macbook Pro Line, Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs now go up to 2.8Ghz and for good measure the graphics oomph has been upped too with Nvidia graphics chips - GeForce 9400M and 9600M GT. And you can switch between them to choose long battery life or maximum performance. Eek. Ideal for intensive applications such as Final Cut.

Looks interesting - not cheap but raising the bar again somewhat - more here from the Apple site.

They've also released a 24" LED cinema display aimed at their laptop users - with built in iSight camera and a lead to power your computer. Now that would be handy....
