Deutsche Bank Research examines the potential for crowdfunding platforms as an alternative source of finance for start-ups in Germany.

For potential entrepreuners and the self-employed the inadequate supply of funding is identified a key economic problem.

"From an economic standpoint and above all with regard to growth the efforts of the crowdfunding and crowdinvesting platforms are to be welcomed," the paper suggests. "Both funding ideas are still in their infancy, but will undoubtedly develop further over the next few years."
