Square has added to its roster of services aimed at small businesses with the launch of a payroll product.
With most payroll products aimed at larger firms with salaried employees, Square says that its new effort is designed for small businesses, especially those with hourly staffers.
Initially only available in California, Square Payroll costs $20 a month plus $5 per employee. Hourly staffers just clock in and out at the register and the system also automatically handles associated taxes.
Having initially begun life as an mPOS provider and payments processor, Square has been busily adding products and services as it seeks to become a one-stop shop for small businesses. The firm already offers inventory management, invoicing, analytics and capital financing.
