Oz credit union rolls out HCE-based mobile NFC payments service

Australian credit union CUA has teamed up with vendor Cuscal to launch a host card emulation-based mobile NFC payments service.

CUA customers with handsets running the latest version of Google's Android operating system can download the app, link their Visa debit card and make payments of up to A$100 with a tap of their handsets.

The credit union is confident that its new service will prove a hit, citing a survey it has commissioned of 1215 Aussies which shows that around half are very likely or somewhat likely to use it when it became available.

In the longer term, 60% expect to be using tap and pay devices in the next five years and 80% in the next decade.

Chris Whitehead, CEO, CUA, says: "Unlike other mobile apps in the market, the CUA technology requires no tag or sticker to be attached to your mobile phone - you simply download the CUA redi2Pay app and off you go."
