A Dutch retail association has hit out at ING, claiming ongoing problems with the bank's iDEAL payments system has cost its members millions of euros.

ING's Dutch customers have suffered several days of disruption to online, phone and mobile services, with multiple glitches hitting the bank's systems from Sunday onwards.

In addition, the bank's iDEAL platform has been down, preventing merchants from accepting PayPal payments.

Retail trade association Thuiswinkel has reacted angrily to the outage, sending a letter of complaint to ING, processor Currence and several other banks, claiming the issue is costing them millions of euros.

"We have long complained about insufficient availability of iDEAL," says, Wijnand Jongen, Thuiswinkel.

The bank says it is working around-the-clock to resolve the issues fully, with stop-gap measures offering only limited availability of services on Wednesday.

Currence is not the processor for iDEAL transactions but the brands and licenses organization for iDEAL. Banks authenticate users and authorize iDEAL transactions themselves in their internetbanking domain, the issuing processing. The acquiring processing is outsourced by all acquiring iDEAL banks to Atos Worldline.
