Lloyds TSB claims 360,000 app downloads in first month

Lloyds TSB says its Apple, Android, BlackBerry and Nokia apps have been downloaded more than 360,000 times since launching just a month ago.

The UK bank quietly rolled out its first, free, mobile apps on the four most popular smartphone platforms on 10 October, enabling customers to view account details and balances on personal and savings accounts, and credit cards.

Users can see mini-statements, make transfers between Lloyds TSB personal accounts, pay bills, set up new payment recipients and find ATMs and branches.

Ashley Machin, director, digital banking, Lloyds TSB, says: "By launching Lloyds TSB mobile banking simultaneously on the four most popular app platforms, the majority of customers can take advantage of the new app to help them control their money on the go. Purely through word of mouth we have had more than 360,000 downloads already being made and expect to double that by the end of the month."

The app has been well received by iPhone owners, securing an average rating of around 4.5 stars out of five from the 805 reviews posted. On the Android Market, Lloyds has faired a little worse, with an average rating of 3.7 out of five from 221 reviews.

Nokia users give the app three out of five but BlackBerry owners have savaged it, awarding Lloyds an average of one out of five from 119 reviews with many customers claiming the offering simply does not work.

Says one reviewer, Nya649, awarding Lloyds zero stars: "Good for nothing. This app seems tailored to waste your time rather then making life simple. It takes forever to upload and it's overall useless. Learn something from other banks such as Natwest!"
