Rabobank staff get contactless stickers

Rabobank is testing contactless payment stickers that can be attached to mobile phones, handing them out to employees.

Staff are currently using its cashless e-payment system MiniTix for purchases at canteens and cafeterias but the Dutch bank plans to sign up other merchants and facilities such as football stadiums.

The virtual wallet can be managed over the Internet rather than having to be loaded with value at special banking terminals, and payments can be made using contactless tokens such as a key fobs or wristbands as well as phones.

Intended as an alternative to the national Chipknip electronic purse, the MiniTix system is being introduced for low value retail payments where credit card fees do not make economic sense.

Rabobank has selected Multicard for personalisation and fulfilment services with the vendor managing product delivery, encoding and customer support.

Pieter Kooistra, CEO, Multicard, says: "Rabobank is taking the lead in introducing some of Europe's most innovative schemes for contactless and mobile payments. We are very pleased to once again work with Rabobank to bring the convenience and security of MiniTix to Rabobank employees."
