CBA introduces personalised online banking experience

Commonwealth Bank of Australia has introduced a new feature for its 2.6 million online banking customers which enables users to customise their home page display to match their personal interests.

The launch of the new NetBank home page follows a trial with 10,000 customers that received an overwhelmingly positive response. Users who log in can now switch 'My Home' to an alternative view and choose to opt "in" and "out" of the page which best suits how they manage their money online.

"More and more, customers want to personalise according to what transactions or information they access regularly," Commonwealth Bank CIO Michael Harte told reporters at the launch.

The new version offers customers a more detailed "birds-eye view" of their accounts while allowing for greater personalisation, he says, with fewer clicks of the mouse needed to seek details such as scheduled transactions and customisations.

NetBank customisation is the latest online enhancement from CBA which has recently introduced a raft of new functionality, including single sign-on across the bank's different online platforms, and optional upgraded security features.

The single sign-on facility enables customers to access and apply for products across multiple sites, including the CommBiz financial management portal, CommSec share trading, CommInsure for insurance products, and sites operated under the recently-acquired Colonial First State Bank bannner.

Harte says single sign-on has boosted cross-sell rates and made it easier for users to consolidate and manage their personal finances online.

The bank also offers two-factor authentication through the use of keyring-sized hardware security tokens or SMS messaging of one-time access codes. Harte says the bank has seen a dip in take-up of physical tokens since its introduced the SMS alternative, with users seeming to prefer the mobile phone as a personal access control tool.
