NAB glitch leaves workers without pay

A systems glitch at National Australia Bank (NAB) left thousands of customers unable to access their salary payments.

A software error at the bank on Tuesday night prevented many electronic payments from being processed.

NAB says staff have worked through the night to fix the problem and the backlog of payments is now being processed. Payments have been flowing to customers throughout Wednesday but were delayed.

Lisa Gray, retail COO, NAB, says despite the delay, all customer payments will be banked.

"NAB is doing all it can to make this happen and stresses that despite the delay, payments will flow to customer accounts," she says in a statement. "NAB is actively processing these payments now."

Gray says no NAB customer will be out of pocket as a result of the processing delay. However the number of customers affected by the glitch has not been disclosed.

"The main priority is ensuring that payments reach customers. Once this has been done, NAB will fully investigate the cause of the delay," she adds.

News of the glitch comes just weeks after a processing error at Westpac led some payments to fail and duplicated tens of thousands of other payments in and out of customer accounts.
