Obopay introduces m-payments plug-in for AOL IM users

Californian m-payments outfit Obopay has launched a new plug-in for AOL's instant messaging service (AIM) which enables users to launch the P2P application and transfer funds to their AIM "buddies".

The Obopay service allows customers to make person-to-person fund transfers using their mobile hand sets and to pay for purchases using a companion debit card.

The vendor has now developed a plugin that enables AIM desktop users to launch the Obopay application and make payments directly to any AIM buddies who have also signed up to the Obopay service. Funds are transferred to the recipient's mobile phone.

Once the AIM user has downloaded the Obopay plugin, they simply click "Actions" on the AIM Buddy List feature and then select "Send money using Obopay".

To spend or withdraw money, users can use a companion debit card or can choose to link their bank account to their Obopay account.

The plugin also enables users to add money to their Obopay accounts and check balances and history from the AIM feature on their desktop.

Commenting on the service Marcien Jenckes, SVP, messaging and social media, AOL, says: "By working with Obopay to enable eligible AIM users to pay or pay back their AIM buddies with just a few clicks, we're making it easier for them to do more each day right from the AIM service."
