In February, the German exchange operator outlined plans to create a new business unit that will be responsible for all data and information technology activities, along with some external IT services.

With current IT chief Michael Kuhn leaving the company, Stars has been poached from HP, where she is currently general manager of the tech giant's Swiss operations, to lead the business from December.

The move is designed to extend Deutsche Börse's client reach and service offering, helping the firm sell its trading systems to other exchanges as well as punt its business process offering, general IT operations and network services.

Joachim Faber, chairman, supervisory board, Deutsche Börse, says of Stars: "She will be able to make key contributions to the success of the entire Group, with the development of an integrated technology and market data department."

Meanwhile, the exchange has reappointed CEO Reto Francioni, who will serve a further term of office until October 2016 and seen Frank Gerstenschläger, responsible for cash market operations, quit.

The cash market will now be jointly managed with the derivatives businesses, comprising the Xetra and Eurex segments, under deputy CEO Andreas Preuss, with the number of executive board members cut from six to five.
