US identity theft outfit AllClear ID has launched a service that alerts consumers when their confidential details have been compromised in a security breach

The Austin, Texas-based company has partnered with the National Cyber-Forensics and Training Alliance, which collates data on on identity theft cases from member organisations, including law enforcement agencies, retailers, banks and computer security companies.

In 2011, 44% of the stolen information discovered by the non-profit NCFTA included user names and passwords, while 22% of the data contained stolen credit card numbers.

AllClear ID says this is the first time consumers will have direct access to this information. Consumers can register for the free service online and sign up for alerts via e-mail, landline or mobile or download an iPhone application from the Apple App Store. The app also makes it possible for consumers to tap into over twenty free identity protection tools.
