Barclays makes bulk iPad order for branch sales

Barclays Bank has made a bulk order for 1800 iPads which will be distributed to staff in an effort to boost customer service and cross-sales at the branch.

The order, believed to be one of the largest tablet roll-outs by a UK financial institution, was revealed by Internet news service The Register and confirmed by Barclays.

A Barclays spokesperson says the purchase was approved following consultation with staff and would be used in the branch as a sales tool and to improve interaction with customers.

"We investigated a number of different tablet options and in this instance, we concluded that iPads were the best solution for their specific needs. We are now starting to use these across Barclays branches in the UK," she adds.

The purchase, which was placed through discount dealer Insight UK, is likely to have rung up a +£2 million price tag, assuming that Barclays opted for the cheapest devices in the range.
