Winfried Boeing
12 March, 2012 - 13:57. Asked by: Winfried Boeing Is it worth considering a .pay? What are your thoughts on this idea? Many have heard of ICANN's new gTLD programme, however, few know that one could apply for a new TLD adding a lot more functionality and increased security to make it a safe heaven for payments. How security can be added is just left to imagination and very real, like traffic encryption, placing all nameservers in a secure root, validating and linking domain names with bank accounts and of course - no phishing mail accounts.
The basic idea is to create a payto:// scheme similar to the existing mailto:// protocol, but much safer - and thus enable the world to enjoy payments rooted by the ultimate lookup service of the DNS (or call it internet payments).
But does it make sense? Some believe a .pay could be a really global challenger to existing services.
Comments and your thoughts please...

It's not a bad idea, except that most of the payments tech will be integrated either in-handset, online, or at POS. None of the integration would require specific .pay NDS access.

I think a bunch of industry 'pay' clouds would be better.
